To create I use basic tools such as pen, pencil, pastel, WINSOR & NEWTON oil paints and drying mediums.

For the paintings the technique I begin with is called grisaille, french for grey, where the underpainting is done in one tone towards the beginning. Then layers of mixed primary colors complete a work on stretched canvas or canvas panel.

The old masters used scumbling, opaque color, and glazing, clear hues, to achieve dimension, often those coats of paint could number over 20. The Dutch-Baroque painter Rembrandt Van Rijn was rumored to use around 50 coats in his portraits!
